The appointment of Col. Dodge . . .

. . . of the Fourth Iowa, to a Brigadier Generalship reminds the Davenport Gazette that Iowa used to have another General Dodge.  True enough, but he, like the great Augustus Caesar, whose royal name he bears, is inclined to peaceful pursuits, and has not been heard of since the war commenced, we believe, outside of his own town.  It is possible he may become the candidate of the reconstructed Democratic party, for Governor, at the next election, if he can be induced to forego his present otium cum dignitate. – Keokuk Gate City.

If there are any civil offices to be had you will find him nosing around pretty soon.
