The Whereabouts of the Iowa Regiments

We have no means of knowing certainly where all of our Iowa troops are, but we feel safe in saying that wherever they are they will do their duty.  The 4th and 9th Infantry, the 1st and 3d Cavalry and the 1st, 2d and 3d Batteries are with Gen. Curtis in Arkansas, we believe.  The 5th and 10th are with Gen. Pope at New Madrid, below Island No. 10.  The 2d, 7th, 12th and 14th, composing Gen. Lauman’s Brigade, are at or near Savannah, Tennessee, as are the 3d, 6th, 8th, 11th and 13th, composing Gen. McKean’s Brigade.  The Curtis horse and the 1st Nebraska Infantry, both composed largely of Iowa troops, are also at Savannah.  Major Corse is on the staff of Gen. Pope, at New Madrid.  Lieut. Fletcher, of regular army, is with his regiment at New Madrid.  There is also an Engineer company, containing a number of boys from Denmark at the same place.  Captains Bereman and Darnell, regular army appointed from Mt. Pleasant, are at Nashville, the former wounded.  Our impression is that the 2d Cavalry, Col. Elliott, is either in Kentucky or Tennessee.  The 4th Cavalry is at Rolla, or on their way hence to Springfield and Arkansas.  The 15th and 16th Regiments have very recently gone into service and are probably at St. Louis.

The above from the Hawkeye of last Tuesday is generally correct.  The 2nd Cavalry are still at New Madrid, Mo., and the 15th and 16th Regiments have left St. Louis, for the grand rendezvous near Savannah.
