The London Mechanic’s
Magazine states that excellent paper is now made in Europe from the leaves
of Indian corn. There is one paper mill
in Switzerland, and another in Austria, in which paper is made from such leaves
exclusively.
Paper of that kind ought to be cheap, for the material is
abundant enough; and if it has been successfully manufactured in the old world,
it will not be long before it will be introduced on this continent. We believe the Philadelphia Ledger is printed on paper manufactured
of straw, and it is said to be a good article.
