This morning two horsemen rode up, and seeing our cold
looks, said, “Ladies, do you take us for Yankees?” “Of course we do—are you not
Yankees?” “Oh, no; we belong to the Augusta troop, and want to hear something
of the movements of the enemy.” We pointed to their pickets, and implored them
to go at once. We, of course, filled their haversacks, and they were scouting
about the woods for some time. Oh, how our hearts go out towards our own
people!
