Williamsport, May 29, 1862.
I take the very first chance I have to let you know I am
safe and well. I did not cross the Potomac until last night. I was left there
with a small detachment of men to support a battery. My hands are full to-day
of ordnance business, so I must stop. I will write in full in a day or two.
