Washington City, August 26, 1850.
Dear Sir:
Pursuant to order, I this morning went at the Hon. Corwin, Pike in hand,
and I have to say there will not, in my opinion, be the slightest difficulty in
regard to the matter to which you refer. I will write you again in two or three
days. Push ahead! Smite down the Philistines.
I am, Hon. Pike, ever
yours,
Truman Smith.
P.S. — I will send you a few copies of my recent speech on
that novel topic the negro question! Perhaps they may do good.
