Washington, Aug. 8, 1854.
Dear Pierce, I do not know whether you have a copy of the
Appeal of the Independent Democrats. I regard that as the most valuable of
my works. I expect to be in Concord, N. H., on Saturday night — after two or
three days there my course is uncertain.
Yours faithfully,
[SALMON P. CHASE.]
P. S. I find but one and that so blotted that I fear you can hardly
make out the first page.
