This morning it is raining, having rained all night. It is
an unwelcome compliment to the fleet. The troops are landing to-day at
Pittsburg Landing. The Seventh is still compelled to remain crowded and jammed
upon the Fairchild. The men are all anxious to get on to terra firma. It is
very unhealthy here—so crowded. The water in the river where so many steamboats
are anchored, is not, (so the surgeons say,) a very genuine article, and in
consequence a large number of the boys are on the sick list.
