Diary of Corporal John W. Dennett, December 13, 1862

Battle of Fredericksburg. The cannonading began at sunrise, and was kept up till twelve o'clock, when the infantry advanced, and there was a continual fire of musketry for eight hours. Our men charged the rebel batteries a number of times, but were repulsed every time. The rebel position was a strong one, and their artillery heavy.
