The One Loyal Man Of Clarksville

Our readers have seen the statement to the effect that when the federal troops occupied Clarksville, Tennessee, they found among the citizens but one Union man.  We have from a reliable source some interesting reminiscences of this gallant Union [man at Clarksville].  His name is Peart, and he is sixty years of age.  The arguments of secession leaders never for a moment swerved him.  Early in the rebellion the minister of the church of which he was a member preached a violent secession sermon, which was enthusiastically received by the congregation generally, but it was too much for the gallant Peart, who rose in the midst of the discourse and bade the minister good morning, thereby publicly censoring the minister, and proclaiming his own loyalty.
