The troops of the 16th felt their disappointment very much on Saturday. Each one supposed that the time had certainly come for them to leave the inactivity of the camp, and when it was announced that no cars could be had before Thursday morning, the boys scarcely knew what to do with themselves. That night many of them ‘ran the guard’ and came down to the city, while the guard house was filled with those arrested for being so unfortunate as to fail in the experiment. The boys generally got back to camp by midnight, and next morning they all felt reconciled to their detention.
