WASHINGTON, March 10. – The Navy Department has received the
following:
Baltimore, March 10.
To Hon. Gideon Welles, Secretary of the Navy.
I arrived this morning and will come on in the next 4 o’clock
train. The enemy has abandoned his heavy
fortifications at St. Simons and Brunswick Georgia, and Fernandina and St. Mary’s,
Florida, are ours.
