Important news being expected, the telegraph line gave way
yesterday morning, east of Morris. It
had succeeded in getting away “fifteen deserters from Corinth,” when it stopped
– leaving us in blissful ignorance of what became of them, or of how much they
contradicted the intelligence derived from previous deserters. This interruption of the lines of
communication continued all day, leaving us only a meager amount of dispatches
to present to our readers.
