To-day we were at
church, and heard a good sermon from the Rev. Mr. Walker, of Alexandria—a
refugee in pursuit of an abiding-place.
An immense Federal
fleet left Hampton Roads a few days ago, for what point destined we do not
know. Oh, that it may find its resting-place in the bottom of the ocean! The
terrific storm yesterday gave us comfort. The mighty rushing of the winds was
music to our ears. We thought of the Spanish Armada, thanked God and took
courage. Was this wicked? I think not. They must lose their lives, or we must
lose ours; and if it will please the Almighty Ruler of the wind and waves to
use them in our defence, we shall be most grateful.
