Senator
Doolittle informs me that, had Morgan held true, Dixon would, though still
quite sick, have gone to the Senate, and the veto would have been sustained;
but D. considered it too much in his feeble health to go there and give an
unavailing vote. Doolittle says Morgan informed him early in the day of his
course, but assigned no reasons for this unexpected stand.
