campaign in western Maryland, following the battle of Gettysburg, up to July
20th, 1863.

During the campaign of 1864, from May 1st to November 1st,
the 18th Regiment, Connecticut Volunteers, are credited with having marched
over thirteen hundred miles, and I marched every step of it. Did not lose an
hour's duty.
